Alamo Block Purchase Bill Up
San Antonio Express, Friday, March 7, 1930.

Austin, March 7..Two more readings of a bill calling for the purchase of the entire block surrounding the Alamo at a price not to exceed $820,000 will bring the matter before the house for action, it was said Friday, following receipt Thursday afternoon of a favorable report on the bill from the house state affairs committee.

The bill provides that the land shall be purchased on the deffered payments plan, with interest on payments not exceeding 6 per cent annually. It provides further that all buildings on this block owned by the city shall be removed at the expense of the city at any time that the Alamo land acquisition board shall require.

The first reading of the bill has been given, and an order was issued for the printing of it. With the legilature scheduled to conclude its present session within the next two weeks, it was indicated that the bill could not come up for action at this session.

Appropriations for the purchase must come up later, as Governor Moody has stated that the will not submit appropriations until the legislature has passed bills raising more revenue.

The bill amends the Alamo purchase act of the second called session of the Forty-first legislature, and extends the amount of land designated at that time.

Authors of the bill are Representatives John Wallace of Teague, chairman of the house finance committee; A. P. Johnson of Carrizo Springs; Phil E. Sanders of Nacogdoches, and R. M. Hubbard of New Boston.
