Example 3. A single-edged espada ancha, most likely of the 19th Century. The blade is crudely hand forged. The knuckle bow guard has been broken away, though its former attachment points remain clearly discernible. The remaining portion of the guard through which the base of the tang passes is semicircular and wider on the display face, but no longer turns down to form a shell guard langet. Overall length: 58.5 cm. (23.1 inches), blade length: 48.3 cm. (19 inches).
