Dia 11, de Marzo se hizo la siguiente informacion de los distinguidos en la funcion del dia [ 1 ] de Febrero para cuia calificacion se llamó primeramente al Cabo Fran[cis]co de Sales Cabrera y despues de prestado el param[en]to y preguntado con arreglo á indenanza dixo:

Que los Yndios q[u]e se pararon y murieron fueron nueve. Que se hizieron de un arroyo endonde quedaron tres y los 6 restantes se pusieron en fuga. Que el Sargento Tarín mato en ella uno, el qual hizo resistencia y disparo su fusil al Sargento que recivio el golpe en la espalda de la chupa al tiempo de balanzsarse para evitarlo. Que asimismo hirio otros dos sobre la fuga los quales no hizieron resistencia. Que el cabo Maximo Moreno fue el que separó á los nueve Yndios de los otros que iban á caballo y los detuvo. Que Josef Nava mató á un Yndio de un balazo quando iban de retirada. Que Josef Flores hirio a otro indio de una lanzada, pero que ya tenia el indio otro herido de bala. Que Fran[cis]co Torres hirio a otro al principio en la funcion quando estaban en el arroyo. Que el Sargento Urrutia hizo lo propio que los demas. Que el cabo Juan Josef Calderon hizo fuego como uno de tanto. Que Josef Ruiz dio un balazo á un Yndio en la cabeza pero que este estaba ya herido. Que Martin Ramon mató a un Yndio de un balazo al tiempo de Salir del arroyo. Que el Yndio le tiro á el pero le faltó el fusil. Que Miguel [el nombre Antonio, rayado] Menchaca mató de un machetazo a uno de los Yndios que hirió el Sargento. Que Ant[oni]o Menchaca acavo de matar desde á Caballo á un Yndio de los que iban huyendo, y que no hubo otra cosa á cargo del juram[en]to hecho en fee del qual lo firmó conmigo haciendo la señal de la cruz por no saver escrivir. Juan Josef Gomez preg[unta]do en los mismos terminos dixo:

Que el Sarg[en]to Tarín (segun vio) atropello dos Yndios hiriendolos y tirandolos al suelo pero que aunque oyo decir que habian los tres aunque encontraron adelante otro muerto no vio si lo mato el Sargento. Que el Cabo Moreno atajó y cortó á los Yndios deteniendolos hasta que llego la gente entrando despues apeldar como los otros. Que el cabo José Nava iba solo con el mismo Yndio que se encontró muerto pero no pude distinguir si lo mató el Cabo Nava ó el Sarg[en]to Tarín . Que Josef Flores dicen que mató un Yndio de un balazo pero que no puede asegurarlo y si que fueron comun. Que no conoce á Fran[cis]co Torres. Que el Sarg[en]to Urrutia entró con la tropa á pelear animandola y siguiendo á los Yndios quando se pusieron en fuga. Que el Cabo Juan Calderon entró como los demás. Que Josef Ruiz dio un balazo áun Yndio que estaba ya herido. Que Martin Ramon mató áun Yndio metiendose en punto los dos aun mismo tiempo. Que Miguel Menchaca alcanzo sobre la fuga á un Yndio y lo mató de un machetazo. Que Antonio Menchaca entro como uno de tantos sin que el declarante viera que hiziere otra cosa. Que los Yndios muertos fueron nueve de a pie y que no save quantos eran los de a caballo que se pusieron en fuga; que lo d[ic]ho es la verdad a cargo del juramento hecho y lo firmó conmigo.

Que, vio al Sarg[en]to Tarín matar un Yndio, pero no le consta que matara otro, que el Yndio le tiró al Sarg[en]to con el fusil y no vio lo demas por que iba adelante en Seguim[ien]to de los Yndios con la Tropa Que no save lo que hirio el Cabo Moreno. Que el Cabo Nava iba manqueando á los Yndios que iban de retirada. Que no conoce a Josef Flores. Que Fran[cis]co Torres mató a un Yndio desde á caballo de un balazo. Que el Sarg[en]to Urrutia alentaba la gente y tiraba como los demás. Que el Cabo Calderon hizo lo mismo. Que José Ruiz mató áun Yndio de un balazo quando estaban en el poco. Que Martin Ramon mato otro de un balazo. Que Miguel Menchaca alcanzo á un Yndio y lo mato de un machetazo. Que no vio lo que hirio Ant[onio] Menchaca, que lo d[ic]ho es la verdad á cargo del juram[en]to hecho p[ar]a cuia constancia lo firmó conmigo haciendo la Señal de la Cruz por no saver escrivir. On the 11th day of March [1803] the following information was composed about the persons distinguished in action on the [1st] day of February and for whose qualification I have called first, Corporal Francisco de Sales Cabrera. After extending formalities and being asked accordingly to indemnify it, he said:

That there were nine Indians that were stopped and killed. That it occurred in an arroyo [creek] where they stopped three and the 6 remaining were put to flight. That Sergeant Tarín killed one, the one that resisted and fired his fusil [rifle] at the Sergeant who received the blast on the back of his jacket at the moment he rolled to dodge it. That he also wounded two others about to escape, who were not giving resisistance. That Corporal Maximo Moreno was the one who separated nine Indians from others that were on horseback and he captured them. That Josef Nava killed an Indian with a shot when they were going to withdraw. That Josef Flores wounded another Indian with a blow from a lance, but that already he had the other Indian wounded from a bullet. That Francisco Torres wounded another at the beginning of the battle when they were in the arroyo. That Sergeant Urrutia did exactly as the others. That Corporal Juan Josef Calderon fired [his weapon] bravely. That Josef Ruiz shot an Indian in the head but this one was already wounded. That Martin Ramon killed an Indian by gunshot when leaving the arroyo. That the Indian shot at him but his fusil misfired. That Miguel [the name Antonio is scratched out] Menchaca killed with a sword-stroke one of the Indians that wounded the Sergeant. That Antonio Menchaca finished killing from horseback an Indian from those who were going to flee and that he didn't have anything else to state from the oath made in faith which he signed with me; making the sign of the cross for not knowing how to write. Juan Josef Gomez, asked on the same terms, said:

That Sergeant Tarín (according to eyewitness) knocked down two Indians, wounding them and throwing them to the ground; but that although I heard, saying that you had three of them, even if they found another dead one farther off, I didn't see if the Sergeant killed him. That Corporal Moreno overtook and divided the Indians, detaining them until the troops arrived, attacking after fleeing like the others. That Corporal José Nava went alone with the same Indian that was found dead but I couldn't tell if Corporal Nava or Sergeant Tarín killed him. That they say Josef Flores killed an Indian by gunshot but that it can't be ascertained or if they were generally [in agreement on it]. That he didn't observe Francisco Torres. That Sergeant Urrutia attacked with the troops and encouraged them fighting and pursuing the Indians when they were put to flight. That Corporal Juan Calderon attacked like the others. That Josef Ruiz fired a shot at an Indian who was already wounded. That Martin Ramon killed an Indian instantly engaging himself with two of them at the same time. That Miguel Menchaca overtook a fleeing Indian and killed him with a sword. That Antonio Menchaca attacked bravely, without the witness seeing that he did other things. That there were nine dead Indians on foot and that it is not known how many were on horseback who were put to flight; that which has been said is the truth in support of the oath taken and he signed it with me.

That, he saw Sergeant Tarín kill an Indian, but he couldn't prove that he killed another, that [it was] the Indian who fired his fusil at the Sergeant and he didn't see any others because he went farther off in pursuit of the Indians with the troops. That he doesn't know who Corporal Moreno wounded. That Corporal Nava went, wounding the Indians who were fleeing. That he didn't observe Josef Flores. That Francisco Torres killed an Indian from horseback with a shot. That Sergeant Urrutia was inspiring the troops and firing like the others. That Corporal Calderon did the same. That José Ruiz killed an Indian by a shot when they were scattered. That Martin Ramon killed another by a shot. That Miguel Menchaca overtook an Indian and killed him with sword. That he didn't see what Antonio Menchaca did; that what has been said is the truth in support of the oath taken.
