CLASS PROPHECY

Here we are in the year 1979, the biggest Alumni Homecoming Banquet in the history of Lake Weir High is getting underway. ENTER. Class of '59.  Creeping through the door comes what? Hey. look! It's poking out its chest now!  Oh, my gosh! I should have known—it's the great George "Chester" Smith and his wife. George is well-known for his outstanding work as an insurance investigator. He is probably investigating death cases at the new Lake Weir Memorial Hospital where Myron Peters is head surgeon, and under him, or rather under his supervision, is the one and only Barbara McNely. She is one of the greatest surgical nurses around. By gosh, above all people, if it isn't Dell Boyer with Barbara. Of course, you know, she is Lake Weir Memorial Hospital's medical technician. At this point, I have some advice for all of you. If you ever get sick around this section, I hope you die before these people get you in their clutches. Behind these people is the staff. The head of this staff is Rosamond Perry Brooks, head of a large family.  Neal Dudley, now a 6'10" pro basketball player just came dribbling in. Behind him is Vermel Hatcher and husband Jack. Since Jack has become the leading advertising executive in the country, Vermel collects rare furs as her hobby. Speaking of hobbies, here comes James Nichols with one of the best paying financial hobbies ever--Florida's largest horse ranch. Still beating the drum is Burnie "Cozy" Balius, head drummer in the Naval School of Music.  John Street is still studying to become a doctor of osteopathy. Can't seem to finish research on "Definition of the Word Osteopathy." Behind John comes Sonja Anderson and Dorothy Ammons, Dorothy is the Director of Nurses at Duke Hospital in Durham, N. C., and Sonja is the surgical nurse at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando. While we're talking about people from Orlando---Gertrude Mills is a biologist at the Lab Station in Orlando--Her big research is "Cranial Nerves of a Cat." What's this fat thing stalking in? Why, it's Helena Mahan with her Jim. They have eight kids. but the kids stayed home tonight. Well, it's about beginning time for "this here" banquet-----Hold Everything--the late arrivals! First is Faye Hayes, secretary of the Lonely Hearts Club. (Also the biggest customer of the club). With her is her friend with a spy glass and overcoat--FBI agent. Margaret Beilling. She's hunting the cause for these lonely hearts. Here is Sylvia Pelfrey--sometime housewife--married and divorced seven times.  Look who just walked in! Vance Buchalla and Gordon Propes, proprietors of the biggest feed store in Summerfield, and the largest poultry farm in Pedro. ---at the top of their careers already! Both are married. Vance has three kids, Gordon, six. Along come the twins, Janet and Jo Ann Reynolds. Jo Ann is married to the president of TWA.  Her best-seller for secretaries is called "The Best Hop on TWA--Private Secretary to
President's Wife," Janet is private secretary for Candler Motors Corporation, but she has an interest in the Candler Backwoods; she calls him a fiance.  In the big line come the four who drove Brigitte Bardot into bankruptcy---Inez Oliver, Glenda Sue Driggers, Imogene Kuebler, and Pat Parrish. All are happily married and are increasing the population.  The invocation for tonight is being said by the arriving guest, Reverend Henry Sisler, one of the Belleview Pentecostal Holiness Church. A service man enters—Jimmy Daniels from the U.S. Air Force. With him is Tommy Jordan who is working with missiles. He's a veteran of four trips to the moon, and is attempting to land on Mars next time he's out in space. Three outstanding men enter Lynn Martin, owner of the biggest farm in Florida; Bobby Reedy, holder of the World's record for sleeping the longest; and, Johnny Blair, winner of the world's title for staying awake and talking the longest. Winners all!  The latest late-comer is John Hart. owner of a garage in Weirsdale. He must have had car trouble tonight. With him is Lawrence Fudge who just finished his evening tasks. He is chief cook and bottlewasher at Santos Truck Terminal. We just received a telegram from Neil Laugesen who is in Alaska. QUOTE, "Own gunsmith shop—am a forester—am a Bachelor--believe it or not"---unquote.  If you are wondering what I've done for twenty years---simply the same thing I did for the twelve years be fore---NOTHING.
