Trees growing more than two hundred meters from the high tide line and more than 100
meters from the nearest naturally occurring tree. This shows that the mangrove
fringes that are usually no more than 100 meters wide can be made much broader.
Mangrove trees in the nursery. These trees are Rizophora mangel which could
provide construction timber and firewood. 70% of the fuel requirement of Eritrea is
for firewood and forests are under heavy pressure. In the year 2000, forty thousand
trees were established in this nursery and planted at their final sites.
